Ancaster

The former municipality of Ancaster is located within the city of Hamilton, Ontario.

Transportation

Ancaster is very car friendly. The majority of real estate listings are a reasonably short drive from the nearest highway, such as Lincoln M Alexander Parkway, and parking is quite easy. In contrast, this area is not very transit friendly. Nonetheless, residents benefit from a few bus lines. Many of the homes for sale in this area are located in places that are not very conducive to those who travel by foot since almost no daily needs can be carried out without the use of a vehicle. Bicycling is also difficult in Ancaster because there are quite a few elevation changes, and there are very few bike lanes.

Services

High schools and primary schools are not very plentiful in Ancaster, and thus not always within walking distance. Furthermore, it can be very hard to get to daycares on foot. Parents have the option of public and private schools at both the elementary and secondary school level. In terms of eating, getting to one of around 10 grocery stores by walking is practical for some, but not all, property owners in Ancaster. A small number of restaurants and coffee shops are available as well.

Character

Ancaster is reasonably quiet, as the streets are usually tranquil - although that is not the case closer to the railway line, Lincoln M Alexander Parkway, Highway 403 or the airport (YHM). It is rather difficult to access green spaces in the former municipality since they are sparse. Despite that, there are approximately 40 parks nearby for residents to explore.

Housing

About one third of properties in Ancaster were constructed following the year 2000, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s. Single detached homes and townhouses are the main housing type in this area. Nearly 95% of the dwellings in the former municipality are occupied by homeowners whereas the rest are rented. This former municipality offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes.
