Part of the Greater Hamilton metropolitan area, Old Hamilton is a former municipality within Hamilton, Ontario.


Old Hamilton is conducive to walking; many day-to-day errands can be run without the use of a car. On the other hand, it is at times challenging to commute by bicycle in Old Hamilton because there is a significant amount of slopes, and the cycling network is not particularly well-developed. The public transit system in this former municipality is not particularly convenient. Nonetheless, commuters benefit from the Hamilton GO Centre Station and West Harbour Station with access to the Lakeshore West Line. The former municipality is linked by about 40 bus lines, and it is especially convenient to get to a nearby bus stop from most homes. However, Old Hamilton is very car friendly. It is convenient to park, and many real estate listings are a reasonably short drive from the nearest highway, such as Lincoln M Alexander Parkway.


It is typically feasible for home buyers in Old Hamilton to do grocery shopping by walking. Concession Street is among the best streets for groceries. In addition, a restaurant is often just around the corner, for instance on Locke Street, and there are also over 50 cafes in Old Hamilton. As far as education is concerned, in this former municipality, families will usually be able to get to schools and daycares on foot.


Old Hamilton is a good former municipality to buy a home in for those who prefer a relaxed ambience. The noise levels in this area are reasonably low, as the streets are usually peaceful - however some parts can be quite loud, especially close to Red Hill Valley Parkway, Queen Elizabeth Way or one of the railway lines. Lastly, it is very easy to get to parks from most locations within the former municipality, since there are over 200 of them nearby for residents to relax in and most homes have a park around the corner.
