Northland

The neighbourhood of Northland is part of the city of Waterloo, Ontario.

Transportation

Northland is an extraordinarily good part of Waterloo for getting around by car. Many properties for sale are a rather short drive from the nearest highway, and it is especially convenient to access a parking spot. In contrast, the public transit system in Northland is fairly poor. Thankfully, there are a few bus lines crossing the neighbourhood, and bus stops are ordinarily nearby. Commuting by bicycle is sometimes difficult in this area since the cycling network is rather limited, and there are a good number of elevation changes for cyclists to brave. Northland is also not very well-suited for walking as very few common errands can be run without the use of a car.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in this part of the city. In addition, daycares are not very abundant and consequently not always within walking distance. As far as food is concerned, reaching the closest supermarket on foot is an option for some, but not all, home buyers in this part of Waterloo. However, a cafe is usually a reasonably short walk away, and there are also around 10 restaurants in this neighbourhood. Residents have access to a fair number of clothing stores within walking distance.

Character

Home buyers who prefer a relaxed ambience will enjoy Northland. This part of Waterloo is quiet overall, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic. Lastly, although Northland is not home to any green spaces, parks are well-spread out in nearby neighbourhoods, which makes it easy to reach them from most locations within Northland.

Housing

Roughly half of homes in Northland were constructed between 1980 and 1990, while most of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 1990s. In this neighbourhood, most dwellings are small apartment buildings, while single detached homes are the main alternative in the housing stock. Renters occupy about 60% of the dwellings in Northland and 40% are occupied by owners. This neighbourhood also has quite a good selection of housing size options - there is a higher proportion of two bedroom homes in this part of Waterloo.
