Situated within the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area, Garden Village is a neighbourhood within Burnaby, British Columbia.

Transportation

Garden Village enables homeowners to travel using different methods of transportation. With various nearby rapid transit stations on the Expo Line, and approximately 20 nearby bus lines, the public transit service in Garden Village is fairly practical. Home buyers who want to live in a community that's walkable will also welcome the rather pedestrian-friendly nature of this neighbourhood; many day-to-day errands can be run without a car, and there are also a fair number of businesses in proximity. The bike is a reasonably good mode of transportation in Garden Village because the cycling infrastructure is extensive.

Services

It is usually feasible for home buyers in this neighbourhood to shop for general and specialty groceries on foot. Likewise, there is usually a restaurant or cafe just around the corner. In terms of education, families will find that wherever their home is located in Garden Village, daycares and schools are close by.

Character

Garden Village has a character that caters to a fairly diverse group of people. Although the atmosphere is not the most lively in this part of Burnaby, the vibe can still be quite dynamic around its main streets, and with the bars in nearby neighbourhoods, it is occasionally hard to find a place to grab a drink as they are generally located relatively close by. Garden Village is very quiet, as the streets tend to be very calm. Accessing green spaces from the majority of locations in the neighbourhood, such as Central Park and Discovery Place Conservation Area, is very easy since there are around 40 of them nearby for residents to explore.

Housing

Small apartment buildings are the predominant housing type, representing about one third of dwellings in Garden Village, but large apartment buildings, duplexes, and single detached homes are also present in the housing stock. This neighbourhood has a good choice of unit sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. Roughly two thirds of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and the remainder are renters. Roughly 30% of homes in this area were built between 1960 and 1980, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s.
