The neighbourhood of West Shore is part of the city of Pickering, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.


The favoured method to move around in this neighbourhood is usually driving. Parking is easy, and most properties for sale are a short car ride from the closest highway, such as Highway 401. In contrast, West Shore is not particularly transit friendly. Nonetheless, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and bus stops are commonly nearby. A majority of the houses for sale in this neighbourhood are located in places that are not very convenient for walking as most daily needs are at times difficult to carry out on foot. Bicycling is also challenging in West Shore as there is a considerable amount of hills, and the bicycling infrastructure is not very extensive.


Parents and their children will find that no matter where their property is situated in West Shore, primary schools and daycares are nearby. In contrast, this area does not contain any high schools. With respect to food, some, but not all, house buyers in West Shore will reside within walking distance of the nearest grocery store. There are a few restaurants in West Shore.


The character of West Shore is exemplified by its calm ambience. This neighbourhood is reasonably quiet, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic - however noise can be problematic near Highway 401 or one of the railway lines. Lastly, although West Shore does not contain any public green spaces, parks are especially well-spread out in nearby neighbourhoods, making it easy to reach them.


West Shore experienced its most significant construction boom in the 1960s and 1970s, so most of the available homes are from this time period. In this neighbourhood, most buildings are single detached homes, and the rest of the properties are mainly townhouses. Homeowners occupy roughly 90% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood and 10% are rented. This area is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes.
