The neighbourhood of Bay Ridges can be found in the city of Pickering, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

Bay Ridges is an extremely good part of Pickering for moving around by car. Many houses for sale are a short car ride from the nearest highway, such as Highway 401, and it is very convenient to come across a place to park. With Pickering Station with access to the Lakeshore East Line, and a few nearby bus lines, the reasonably good public transit infrastructure makes transit a viable option for many. It is difficult to commute by bicycle in this part of the city as this neighbourhood is home to a rather limited bicycling infrastructure, and riding is made strenuous by the typically hilly topography. There are also relatively few pedestrians out on the streets of this neighbourhood, although many common errands can be run on foot.

Services

The closest supermarket in Bay Ridges is typically only a reasonably short walk away. A limited selection of restaurants and cafes is available as well. Regarding education, families will appreciate that wherever their home is situated in this area, daycares and primary schools are nearby. On the other hand, Bay Ridges does not have any high schools.

Character

Bay Ridges is quiet, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic - although that is not the case near one of the railway lines or Highway 401. Parks are spread out sporadically, resulting in them being very hard to access from numerous locations within this neighbourhood.

Housing

In Bay Ridges, around 40% of buildings are single detached homes, and the remaining houses are mainly large apartment buildings, duplexes, and townhouses. This area is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy about 80% of the units in the neighbourhood while the remainder are rented. Most of the housing growth in this part of Pickering happened between 1960 and 1980.
