Vars

Vars is a neighbourhood in Ottawa, Ontario.

Transportation

Vars is an extremely good part of Ottawa for driving. Parking is generally easy. However, public transit riders may experience very few options in Vars by reason of the low service level. Thankfully, the neighbourhood is linked by a few bus lines. Most houses for sale in this part of the city are located in areas that are not very conducive to walking since almost no daily needs can be carried out without needing to resort to a vehicle. Moving around by bicycle is also challenging in Vars because there are few bike lanes, and there are a good number of slopes.

Services

House buyers in this part of the city almost always have to use a vehicle to travel to the nearest supermarket. As far as education is concerned, there are only a very small number of primary schools in this neighbourhood and thus they can be a very long walk away. Furthermore, this area does not have any high schools. Likewise, daycares are not plentiful and consequently not always within walking distance.

Character

Vars is reasonably quiet, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour - although there are still several louder sections, especially near the railway line or Highway 417. It is rather challenging to access parks since they are spread out sporadically. Still, there are a few green spaces nearby for residents to relax in.

Housing

Single detached homes and townhouses are the predominant housing type in Vars. Around one quarter of homes in this neighbourhood were constructed following the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1960s. This part of Ottawa offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. About 85% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners whereas the rest are rented.
