The neighbourhood of Vars is part of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, which is located in the Ottawa - Gatineau metropolitan area.

Transportation

Vars is an extraordinarily good part of Ottawa for driving. It is very easy to park. On the other hand, commuting by public transit is very difficult in Vars. Thankfully, there are a few bus lines traversing the neighbourhood. This area is not very bicycling-friendly because there are a good number of slopes to challenge cyclists, and the cycling network is not very comprehensive. Walking is also not very practical for property owners in this neighbourhood as almost no common errands can be run without the use of a vehicle.

Services

Property owners in this part of the city almost always have to turn to a vehicle to travel to the closest grocery store. With respect to education, there are only a very small number of primary schools in this area and thus they can be a very long walk away. In addition, Vars does not contain any high schools. Likewise, there are only a very small number of daycares and thus they can be a very long walk away.

Character

Vars is quiet, as the streets are reasonably peaceful - however some parts can be quite loud, especially closer to Highway 417 or the railway line. Parks are rather challenging to reach since they are sparse. Despite that, there are a few green spaces close by for residents to enjoy.

Housing

In Vars, almost all buildings are single detached homes, whereas the remainder are mainly mobile homes. This neighbourhood offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy roughly 90% of the dwellings in Vars while the remainder are rented. About 30% of properties in this part of the city were constructed following the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1960s.
