Fitzroy is very quiet, as there are low levels of noise from traffic. It is very hard to access public green spaces from most locations within the neighbourhood since they are sparse. Despite that, there are a few parks close by for residents to check out.

The substantial percentage of single detached homes in the housing stock of Fitzroy is an important part of its character. Roughly one quarter of properties in this neighbourhood were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This part of Ottawa also has quite a good variety of housing sizes; this neighbourhood is notable for those looking for three bedroom homes. Roughly 95% of the units in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and the rest are rented.
