Thornlea

Thornlea is a neighbourhood within Markham, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

Thornlea is an extraordinarily good part of Markham for getting around by car. It is especially convenient to park, and nearby highways, such as Highway 407, are very easy to access from any location in this area. In contrast, getting around by public transit is challenging in Thornlea. Thankfully, there are plenty of rapid transit stations with access to the Viva Purple. There are approximately 10 bus lines crossing the neighbourhood, and bus stops are ordinarily around the corner. This part of the city is moderately amenable to biking. However, there are relatively few pedestrians out on the streets of Thornlea, despite the fact that many daily errands can be run without a vehicle.

Services

It is very hard to reach the nearest grocery store by foot from most homes for sale in Thornlea. Furthermore, there is often a restaurant or cafe just around the corner. With respect to education, in Thornlea, parents and their children will usually be able to get to daycares and high schools on foot. However, Thornlea does not contain any primary schools.

Character

The character of Thornlea is exemplified by its slower-paced atmosphere. This area is reasonably quiet, as noise from streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue - although there are still several louder sections, especially closer to the railway line, Highway 404 or Highway 407. Finally, reaching public green spaces in the neighbourhood, including Bayview Reservoir Park and Bishops Cross Park, is easy since there are approximately 30 of them close by for residents to enjoy.

Housing

Single detached homes are the most common housing type, representing almost all dwellings in Thornlea, and the rest of the dwellings are mainly duplexes. Most of the housing growth in this neighbourhood occurred between 1980 and 1990. There is a higher proportion of four or more bedroom homes in this part of the city. Homeowners occupy roughly 95% of the units in Thornlea while the rest are rented.
