The neighbourhood of River Heights is part of the city of Coquitlam, British Columbia, which is located in the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area.


Cars are a great means of transportation in River Heights. It is very easy to park, and most houses for sale are a rather short drive from the closest highway, such as Trans-Canada Highway. However, River Heights is not very transit friendly. Nevertheless, property owners benefit from a few bus lines, and bus stops are usually nearby. Although the cycling network is fairly good, River Heights is not particularly conducive to bicycling as cyclists encounter a significant amount of slopes. River Heights is also not very well-suited for those who travel by foot because few daily errands can be run on foot.


Property owners in River Heights generally need a car to travel to the closest supermarket. With respect to education, in River Heights, families will typically be able to get to daycares on foot. In contrast, there are only a limited number of primary schools in this area and thus they can be a rather long walk away. Additionally, River Heights does not contain any high schools.


People who prefer a relaxed atmosphere will enjoy River Heights. Parks are very well-spread out and there are approximately 10 of them nearby for residents to visit, which makes it very easy to get to them from a large number of locations in the neighbourhood. Most areas in this part of the city are quiet, as the streets are usually quite calm - however noise can be bothersome close to Trans-Canada Highway or the railway line.


The predominance of single detached homes in the housing stock of River Heights is an important part of its character. This neighbourhood also has a choice of unit sizes; there is a higher proportion of four or more bedroom homes in this part of the city. Homeowners occupy about 85% of the properties in River Heights while renters occupy the remainder. Most of the housing growth in this neighbourhood occurred between 1980 and 1990.
