However, there are only a few high schools and therefore they can be an extended walk away.

Character

Saint-Leonard East is a "jack-of-all-trades" when it comes to the ambience of this neighbourhood. Even though this part of Montréal is not known for its lively ambience, its main streets can still be quite dynamic, and it is very easy to find bars since they are well-spread throughout the area. Rue Bélanger in particular offers a broad selection of nightlife. Saint-Leonard East is very quiet overall, as there are low levels of noise from traffic. There is a good amount of greenery in this part of Montréal as many tree-lined streets are prominent. Public green spaces, including Parc Giuseppe-Garibaldi and Parc Ladauversière, are very well-spread out and there are over 50 of them close by for residents to check out, making it easy to reach them from many locations within the neighbourhood.

Housing

The substantial percentage of small apartment buildings in the housing stock of Saint-Leonard East is an important part of its character. This neighbourhood experienced its largest building boom between 1960 and 1980, so most of the available housing is from this time period. This part of the city is primarily composed of three bedroom and two bedroom homes. Renters occupy roughly two thirds of the dwellings in the neighbourhood whereas owners occupy the remainder.
