Located within the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area, Old East York is a neighbourhood within Toronto, Ontario.

Transportation

This neighbourhood will attract homeowners that use various means of transportation. This part of the city is very transit friendly thanks to around 10 nearby bus lines. Most homes for sale in this neighbourhood are located in areas that are also moderately suitable for those who prefer to get around as pedestrians; many common errands can be run without a car, and various businesses are rather close at hand. Commuting by bicycle is easy in this part of Toronto.

Property owners in this area will appreciate that a general and a specialty grocery store is always only a short stroll away. Likewise, there is typically a restaurant or cafe in close proximity. Character

No matter what type of character home buyers prefer in a neighbourhood, Old East York is a reasonably good option. Even though the atmosphere is not the liveliest in this area, its busier streets are still quite dynamic, and with the nightlife venues in nearby neighbourhoods, it is easy to find a place to grab a drink because they are generally located a short walk away. Donlands Avenue in particular offers a great variety of nightlife. Old East York is reasonably quiet overall, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic, although there are still several louder areas, especially closer to Don Valley Parkway. Greenery is reasonably present in this part of the city as numerous tree-lined streets are around. It is very easy to reach parks from most locations in the neighbourhood since there are over 50 of them close by for residents to relax in.

Housing

In Old East York, about 60% of dwellings are single detached homes, whereas the remainder are mainly large apartment buildings, small apartment buildings, and duplexes. This part of Toronto has a good variety of unit sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. Around two thirds of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas renters make up the remainder. A majority of the houses available in the housing market in this neighbourhood were constructed before the 1960s, when a large proportion of the housing growth happened.
