Greenbelt

Greenbelt is a neighbourhood in Ottawa, Ontario.

Transportation

The preferred mode of transportation in this part of the city is very often driving. Accessing a parking spot is quite easy. On the other hand, the public transit system in Greenbelt is fairly poor. Nonetheless, property owners are served by over 50 bus lines. It is very impractical for people walking to navigate Greenbelt since running daily errands is difficult. Even though biking is more practical in some areas than others, this neighbourhood is also not very cycling-friendly as there are a good number of hills to challenge cyclists, and the bicycling network is not very comprehensive.

Services

There are only a very small number of high schools and primary schools in Greenbelt and accordingly they can be a very long walk away. In addition, families may find it very difficult for their schoolchildren to get to daycares on foot. When it comes to food, some property owners in this part of the city may be able to buy their groceries by walking, while others will have to turn to another means of transportation. There are also a few choices for those who value nearby restaurants.

Character

It is relatively serene in Greenbelt, due to the presence of very few pedestrians. A lot of locations within the neighbourhood have fairly good access to parks, like Doug Thompson Pathway and Greens Creek Sliding Hill, since they are sparse. Still, there are approximately 20 green spaces close by for residents to relax in.

Housing

Around one third of homes in Greenbelt were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s. The predominant housing types in this area are single detached homes and townhouses. Around 85% of the properties in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and 15% are occupied by renters. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes.
