Walkerville

The neighbourhood of Walkerville is part of the city of Windsor, Ontario, which is situated in the Greater Windsor metropolitan area.

Transportation

This neighbourhood will appeal to active people as it is suited for bicycling. More specifically, the cycling infrastructure is reasonably extensive, and bike riders do not face serious slopes. Most homes for sale in this part of Windsor are located in places that are also fairly suitable for those who travel on foot; many daily needs can be met without a vehicle, and plenty of businesses are reasonably close at hand. Public transit users may have limited options in Walkerville by reason of the service's low frequency. Thankfully, the neighbourhood is linked by a few bus lines, and the closest bus stop is generally very close by. However, driving is a fairly good transportation option in Walkerville as it is usually not too problematic to find a parking spot.

Services

It is usually possible for property owners in this neighbourhood to shop for general and specialty groceries without the use of a vehicle. In addition, there are a fair number of options in close proximity for those who care about restaurants and cafes. A decent choice of clothing stores can also be found within a rather short walking distance, for example on Ottawa Street. Concerning education, in this part of the city, parents and their kids will generally be able to get to daycares and schools by walking.

Character

Walkerville has a character that appeals to a fairly diverse group of people. Walkerville is very quiet, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour. On the other hand, there are about 30 public green spaces nearby for residents to explore, including William G. Milliken State Park and Jackson Park, and they are very well-distributed, which makes them easy to reach from the majority of locations within the neighbourhood. Lastly, even though this neighbourhood is not known for its vibrancy, its busier streets are still quite lively, and with its approximately 10 bars, there are options for nighttime activities.

Housing

In Walkerville, roughly half of dwellings are single detached homes, whereas the remainder are mainly small apartment buildings and duplexes. A majority of the housing growth in this part of the city occurred pre-1960. This neighbourhood has a good selection of unit sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. There are equal parts renters and owners living in this neighbourhood.
