West End

West End is a neighbourhood within Thunder Bay, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Thunder Bay metropolitan area.

Transportation

West End is a fairly convenient part of Thunder Bay for pedestrians; many daily needs are easy to meet without a car. However, bicycling is sometimes difficult in West End since the terrain is not very flat, and the bicycling network is fairly poor. The public transit service in this area is not very frequent. Nevertheless, the neighbourhood is connected by a few bus lines, and it is very easy to reach a nearby bus stop from most homes. However, the preferred transportation option in West End is often a car. Most houses for sale are a reasonably short drive from the nearest highway, and it is easy to park.

Services

The nearest supermarket in this area is generally only a rather short walk away. Moreover, this part of the city is a good place in which to go out to eat. With respect to education, families will find that wherever their home is situated in West End, daycares and schools are close by.

Character

West End is unique in that it contains both vibrant and quiet areas, making it appealing to more people. Even though this part of Thunder Bay is not known for its vibrancy, with the bars in nearby neighbourhoods, it is easy to find a place to grab a drink as they are generally located close by. At the same time, this area is very quiet, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic.

Housing

Roughly three quarters of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas renters make up the remainder. Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing most dwellings in this part of the city, and the remaining dwellings are mainly small apartment buildings and duplexes. A majority of the housing growth in this area occurred pre-1960. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of two bedroom and three bedroom homes.
