Part of the Greater Thunder Bay metropolitan area, Court-Cumberland is a neighbourhood within Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Transportation

Court-Cumberland will attract home buyers who appreciate living in a compact area as it is rather accommodating to traveling on foot; meeting daily needs is easy without a vehicle, and a variety of businesses are fairly close at hand. It is also convenient to commute by bike in this part of Thunder Bay. Court-Cumberland is moderately car friendly. Parking is quite easy. In contrast, travelling by transit can be at times challenging in Court-Cumberland due to the low service level. Nevertheless, residents have access to a few bus lines, and most homes are very close to a bus stop.

Services

It is very often feasible for property owners in this part of Thunder Bay to purchase groceries as pedestrians. Bay Street is among the best streets for food stores. In addition, there are a fair number of opportunities for those who appreciate nearby restaurants and cafes. It is also convenient to reach a variety of clothing stores as a pedestrian. When it comes to education, it is a reasonably short stroll to access daycares and primary schools from any location in this part of the city. However, it can be difficult to reach high schools from houses for sale in this neighbourhood.

Character

Court-Cumberland is unique in that it contains both vibrant and quiet areas, making it appealing to more people. Even though this area is not known for its vibrancy, with its a few bars, it is very easy to find a place to grab a drink as they are generally located around the corner. Main streets, like Red River Road, are wonderful for those who enjoy going out. At the same time, this area is reasonably quiet, as there are low levels of noise from traffic, however some parts can be quite noisy, especially near one of the railway lines.

Housing

Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing around 30% of dwellings in Court-Cumberland, but large apartment buildings, small apartment buildings, and duplexes are also present in the housing stock. This neighbourhood offers mainly two bedroom and one bedroom homes. Renters occupy about two thirds of the units in the neighbourhood whereas the remainder are occupied by owners. Around half of properties in this part of Thunder Bay were constructed pre-1960, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s.
