Markers Acres

The neighbourhood of Markers Acres is part of the city of Kingston, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Kingston metropolitan area.

Transportation

Markers Acres is an extremely good part of Kingston for getting around by car. It is especially convenient to park, and nearby highways, such as Highway 401, are very easy to drive to from any location in this part of the city. In contrast, commuting by public transit is at times challenging in this part of Kingston. Nonetheless, homeowners benefit from a few bus lines, and bus stops are commonly around the corner. Even though bicycling is more feasible in some areas than others, this part of the city is not particularly cycling-friendly as there are a fair number of hills for cyclists to brave, and the bicycling network is rather limited. It is also occasionally difficult for pedestrians to get around in Markers Acres because many daily needs are challenging to carry out without a car.

Services

In Markers Acres, families will almost always be able to get to primary schools and daycares by walking. On the other hand, this area does not contain any high schools. When it comes to food, a grocery store is typically accessible within a rather short trip from any home in this part of the city. In addition, this neighbourhood is a good place in which to go out to eat, and there are also a few coffee shops in Markers Acres.

Character

The character of Markers Acres is exemplified by its calm environment. This area is very good for those who prefer quiet surroundings, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour near the railway line or Highway 401. Finally, it is easy to access parks from most locations within the neighbourhood since there are around 20 of them nearby for residents to explore.

Housing

About 60% of the properties in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners while renters occupy the remainder. Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing about 45% of dwellings in this neighbourhood, and the remainder are mainly small apartment buildings and townhouses. About half of properties in this part of Kingston were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This area is primarily composed of two bedroom and three bedroom homes.
