Part of the Kitchener - Cambridge - Waterloo metropolitan area, Allendale is a neighbourhood within Cambridge, Ontario.

Transportation

Allendale is an extremely good part of Cambridge for driving. It is especially convenient to access a parking spot, and nearby highways are quite easy to reach from anywhere in this neighbourhood. However, travelling by public transit is challenging in Allendale. Nevertheless, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and most houses are very close to a bus stop. Many of the homes for sale in this part of the city are located in places that are not very suitable for those who travel by foot since very few daily errands can be run on foot. The bicycle is a fairly poor mode of transportation in this area since there are quite a few elevation changes, and the cycling network is not very well-developed.

Services

Parents and their kids will find that wherever their property is situated in this neighbourhood, both primary and secondary schools are nearby. However, families may consider it very hard to reach daycares on foot. With respect to food, house buyers in Allendale generally have to use a car to purchase groceries.

Character

The character of Allendale is exemplified by its slower-paced atmosphere. Most areas in this part of the city are reasonably quiet, as the streets are quite calm - however noise can be an issue closer to the railway line or Highway 8. Lastly, although Allendale does not contain any green spaces, parks are very well-situated in nearby neighbourhoods, which results in them being easy to get to from the majority of locations within this neighbourhood.

Housing

Roughly 80% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home while the rest are renters. The large percentage of single detached homes in the housing stock of this neighbourhood is an important part of its character. About one third of properties in this area were built prior to the 1960s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes.
