Stillwater Lake

The community of Stillwater Lake is part of the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Cars are an excellent mode of transportation in Stillwater Lake. It is very convenient to park, and it is a reasonably short drive to the nearest highway from any location in Stillwater Lake. This community is not particularly appropriate for cycling as bicycle riders are faced with quite a few hills, and the cycling infrastructure is not very comprehensive. It is also very difficult for people travelling by foot to get around in this area because very few daily errands can be run without a car.

Services

There are only a very small number of high schools in Stillwater Lake and thus they can be a very long walk away. In addition, this area does not have any primary schools. Moreover, families may find it very difficult to get to daycares by walking. With regards to eating, home buyers in this part of Halifax generally have to rely on a car to travel to the nearest grocery store. There are a few options for those who value restaurants within a short distance.

Character

The character of Stillwater Lake is exemplified by its relaxed environment. Most areas in this part of the municipality are very quiet, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour. Finally, there are approximately 20 public green spaces close by for residents to check out, including Upper Tantallon Provincial Park and Five Bridges Junior High School Park, which results in them being easy to reach from a large number of locations within this community.

Housing

Single detached homes are the most common housing type, representing the overwhelming majority of dwellings in Stillwater Lake, and the remaining houses are mainly small apartment buildings. About half of properties in this community were built in the 1990s, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1980s and the 2000s. There is a higher proportion of three bedroom homes in this area. Homeowners occupy nearly 95% of the dwellings in the community and the rest are rented.
