Shannon Park

Shannon Park is a neighbourhood within Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Shannon Park is particularly car friendly. It is a very short drive to the nearest highway from any home in this part of Halifax, and it is very convenient to park. However, the public transit service in this area is not very frequent. Nevertheless, the neighbourhood is linked by a few bus lines, and most residences are very close to a bus stop. Shannon Park is not particularly conducive to bicycling since there is a significant amount of slopes, and the cycling network is not very extensive. A majority of the houses for sale in this neighbourhood are located in areas that are also not very suitable for those who prefer to get around as pedestrians as most day-to-day needs are at times difficult to meet without a car.

Services

It is sometimes possible for house buyers in Shannon Park to reach the closest grocery store as pedestrians. However, a restaurant is commonly just around the corner. As far as education is concerned, in this part of Halifax, parents and their kids will almost always be able to reach primary schools by walking. However, Shannon Park does not contain any high schools.

Character

The character of Shannon Park is exemplified by its slower-paced ambience. Most areas in this part of Halifax are reasonably quiet, as there are low levels of noise from traffic - although that is not the case closer to the railway line. Finally, reaching parks is easy from most locations within the neighbourhood since there are around 10 of them close by for residents to check out.

Housing

About 60% of the population of this neighbourhood rent their home and 40% are owners. About two thirds of dwellings are small apartment buildings, making it easy to find apartments in this part of Halifax, while single detached homes make up most of the remaining housing stock. Around 30% of properties in this area were built in the 1980s, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1960s. This part of the municipality also has a variety of unit sizes - this neighbourhood is particularly good for those looking for two bedroom homes.
