Transportation

Cars are an excellent transportation option in this part of Halifax. It is very convenient to find a place to park, and nearby highways are particularly easy to access from any home in Otter Lake. The bike is a rather poor means of transportation in this part of the municipality because the cycling network is not very comprehensive, and the area is not particularly flat. Getting around by walking is also not very feasible for home buyers in this part of Halifax as meeting daily needs is impractical without a car.

Services

In most, if not all, cases, a vehicle is needed to shop for groceries. There are also a few restaurants in this community. In terms of education, there are no high schools and no primary schools in this part of Halifax. Furthermore, parents may consider it challenging for their children to access daycares without a car.

Character

There is a great variety of green spaces in Otter Lake. There are approximately 10 green spaces nearby for residents to relax in, such as Western Commons and Beechville Lakeside Timberlea Trail Park, and they are especially well-distributed, making it easy to get to them. Finally, as there are very few pedestrians, this area is relatively quiet.

In Otter Lake, about two thirds of buildings are single detached homes, but mobile homes are also present in the housing stock. This area offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy roughly 90% of the dwellings in the community while the rest are rented. This area did not experience a single building boom; the construction of new homes in Otter Lake was spread throughout several decades in the twentieth and twenty-first century.
