The neighbourhood of Old Bedford is part of the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Driving is very often the favoured method to move around in Old Bedford. The majority of real estate listings are a rather short car ride from the closest highway, and finding a parking spot is quite easy. In contrast, Old Bedford is not an especially convenient part of Halifax for travelling by public transit. Thankfully, the neighbourhood is served by a few bus lines, and bus stops are not very far-removed from most residences. Getting around by foot is not especially convenient for property owners in Old Bedford because few common errands can be run without a vehicle. The bike is a sometimes poor means of transportation in Old Bedford as there are few bike lanes, and bicycling is rendered arduous by the typically steep terrain.

Lastly, there are approximately 10 green spaces close by for residents to visit, such as Bedford Barrens, and they are especially well-distributed, resulting in them being easy to access from a large number of locations in the neighbourhood.

Housing

In Old Bedford, many dwellings are single detached homes, but small apartment buildings are also present in the housing stock. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and two bedroom homes. About 60% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and 40% are occupied by renters. About one quarter of properties in this neighbourhood were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s.
