Situated within the Greater Halifax metropolitan area, North Preston is a community within Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Transportation
Driving is a great means of transportation in North Preston. It is very convenient to park. In contrast, public transit users may have few options in North Preston due to the low service level. Nevertheless, the community is served by a few bus lines, and it is especially convenient to reach a nearby bus stop from most homes. This part of Halifax is not very cycling-friendly since the cycling infrastructure is quite bad, and the terrain is not very flat. Traveling by walking is also not very feasible for residents in this area since running daily errands is almost impossible without a vehicle.
Services
Parents and their children will welcome that wherever their property is situated in this part of Halifax, primary schools and daycares are close by. However, there are no high schools in North Preston. Regarding food, property owners in North Preston almost always have to use a vehicle to purchase groceries.
Character
North Preston is a wonderful community to buy a house in for those who prefer a slower-paced atmosphere. Parks, such as Waverley - Salmon River Long Lake Wilderness Area, are very well-located and there are a few of them close by for residents to discover, making them easy to get to. This part of the municipality is especially quiet overall, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic.
Housing
In North Preston, almost all dwellings are single detached homes, but townhouses are also present in the housing stock. This community offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy roughly 85% of the dwellings in North Preston and the remainder are rented. Roughly 30% of properties in this part of Halifax were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s.
