Lake Charles

The neighbourhood of Lake Charles is part of the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Lake Charles is an extraordinarily convenient part of Halifax for getting around by car. It is a short car ride to the closest highway from any location in this neighbourhood, and it is especially convenient to park. However, Lake Charles is not very transit friendly. Nonetheless, property owners have access to a few bus lines, and bus stops are generally around the corner. Although bike travel is rather popular, cycling is sometimes challenging in Lake Charles because there are few bike lanes, and cyclists are faced with a significant amount of elevation changes. Many of the houses for sale in this part of the municipality are located in areas that are also not very convenient for pedestrians since almost no common errands can be run without the use of a vehicle.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in this part of the municipality. Moreover, it can be challenging to travel to daycares from properties for sale in Lake Charles. When it comes to food, in the majority of cases, a vehicle is required in this part of Halifax to access the closest supermarket.

Character

Lake Charles is an excellent neighbourhood to buy a home in for those who prefer a slower-paced environment. This area is especially quiet overall, as noise from the streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue. Lastly, it is easy to access public green spaces from many locations within the neighbourhood since there are a few of them close by for residents to unwind in.

Housing

The predominant housing types in Lake Charles are single detached homes and townhouses. This part of the municipality offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Roughly 95% of the properties in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and the rest are rented. Around one quarter of homes in this neighbourhood were constructed between 1960 and 1980, while most of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s.
