Main-à-Dieu

The community of Main-à-Dieu is part of the municipality of Cape Breton Municipality, Nova Scotia, which is situated in the Cape Breton metropolitan area.

Transportation

Cars are a great medium of transportation in this part of the municipality. It is especially convenient to access a parking spot. The bike is a rather poor method of transportation in Main-à-Dieu as the bicycling infrastructure is not very extensive, and there are a good number of slopes. A majority of the houses for sale in this part of Cape Breton Municipality are located in areas that are also not very suitable for people who get around on foot as many daily needs are nearly impossible to carry out without a car.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in Main-à-Dieu. Additionally, daycares are not numerous and consequently not always within a short distance. Regarding eating, in all cases, a car is required to do groceries.

Character

People who prefer a relaxed environment will enjoy Main-à-Dieu. Most areas in this area are very quiet, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour. Finally, there are a few parks nearby for residents to relax in, such as Baleine Nature Reserve and Scatarie Island Wilderness Area, which makes them very easy to reach from most locations in this community.

Housing

The sizeable percentage of single detached homes in the housing stock of Main-à-Dieu is an important part of its character. Roughly one third of properties in this community were built between 1960 and 1980, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This part of Cape Breton Municipality is primarily composed of two bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy nearly all of the units in Main-à-Dieu and the remainder are rented.
