Main Street

The neighbourhood of Main Street is part of the city of Fredericton, New Brunswick, which is situated in the Greater Fredericton metropolitan area.

Transportation

Main Street will appeal to people who want to live in a community that's walkable because it is rather pedestrian-friendly; many daily errands can be run without needing to use a car. Commuting by bicycle is also convenient in Main Street. Cars are a good transportation option in this neighbourhood. Parking is easy. However, Main Street is not an especially convenient part of Fredericton for travelling by public transit. Nevertheless, there are a few bus lines crossing the neighbourhood, and bus stops are usually very close by.

Services

A supermarket is generally accessible within a short stroll from anywhere in this neighbourhood. Likewise, this neighbourhood is a fairly good place in which to go out to eat, and house buyers benefit from a few cafes as well. It is also easy to get to a variety of clothing stores by foot. With respect to education, primary schools and daycares are very easy to reach as a pedestrian from anywhere in this part of Fredericton. In contrast, high schools are not very abundant and consequently not always within walking distance.

Character

No matter what type of character home buyers prefer in a neighbourhood, Main Street is a fairly good option. Even though the ambience is not the liveliest in this area with the bars in nearby neighbourhoods, it is very easy to find a place to grab a drink because they are generally located around the corner. Main Street is great for those who enjoy a quiet atmosphere, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour. It is very easy to reach parks since there are around 20 of them close by for residents to explore.

Housing

Small apartment buildings are the predominant housing type, representing around 40% of buildings in Main Street, and the rest of the properties are mainly duplexes and single detached homes. Roughly one third of homes in this neighbourhood were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 2000s. This area has a good choice of housing size options, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. The proportions of renters and homeowners are about even.
