Dover

Located within the Greater Nanaimo metropolitan area, Dover is a neighbourhood within Nanaimo, British Columbia.

Transportation

The favoured mode of transportation in this part of the city is very often a car. Parking is generally easy, and it is a short drive to the nearest highway from any home in this part of Nanaimo. In contrast, the transit system in Dover is fairly poor. Thankfully, the neighbourhood is served by a few bus lines, and bus stops are not very far away from most homes. Biking is sometimes challenging in this area as the bicycling infrastructure is somewhat poor, and there is a considerable amount of hills. Walking is also not particularly practical for house buyers in Dover as few common errands can be run without the use of a car.

Services

House buyers in this area will be pleased to learn that a grocery store is always only a rather short stroll away. Moreover, those who like to dine in restaurants will have a fair number of choices, and a limited variety of coffee shops is available as well. It is also easy to get to a selection of clothing stores on foot. As far as education is concerned, families will appreciate the proximity to schools and daycares, which are within a short distance from the majority of properties for sale in Dover.

Character

Dover is a very good neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a slower-paced environment. There are over 50 public green spaces close by for residents to check out, such as McGirr Sports Fields and May Richards Bennett Pioneer Park, and they are especially well-located, making them very easy to reach. This area is also very quiet, as the streets tend to be very tranquil.

Housing

Around three quarters of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and renters make up the remainder. In this area, around 55% of buildings are single detached homes, whereas the rest are mainly small apartment buildings. Around one third of properties in this neighbourhood were constructed in the 1990s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built in the 1980s and the 2000s. This part of the city offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes.
