Shaughnessy

The neighbourhood of Shaughnessy is part of the city of Vancouver, British Columbia, which is located in the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area.

Transportation

No matter the mode of transportation, it is reasonably simple to get around in Shaughnessy. Shaughnessy is a fairly convenient part of Vancouver for pedestrians; most day-to-day errands can be run without a vehicle, and numerous businesses are close at hand. This area will also draw physically active people as it is rather suited for cycling. For instance, this part of the city has good cycling infrastructure, and bike-share stations are never more than a few blocks away. Shaughnessy is reasonably transit friendly. There are about 10 bus lines, and the nearest bus stop is generally around the corner. Driving is also a fairly good means of transportation in this area. It is convenient to park.

Services

It is straightforward to reach both a general and a specialty grocery store without a car from any location in this neighbourhood. Additionally, owing to over 100 restaurants and approximately 30 cafes, Shaughnessy is a very good place in which to go out to eat, for instance along 41st Avenue. Regarding education, schools and daycares are straightforward to get to without the use of a vehicle from most properties for sale in this part of the city.

Character

Shaughnessy has a character that appeals to a fairly diverse group of people. Even though this part of Vancouver is not known for its vibrancy, with its a few nightlife venues, it is easy to find a place to grab a drink because they are generally located within walking distance. Shaughnessy is very quiet overall, as there are low levels of noise from traffic. Getting to public green spaces in the neighbourhood, such as VanDusen Botanical Garden and Connaught Park, is very easy since there are over 50 of them close by for residents to explore.

Housing

Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing most dwellings in Shaughnessy, but small apartment buildings and duplexes are also present in the housing stock. About half of properties in this neighbourhood were built pre-1960, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1990s. This neighbourhood also has a good choice of housing size options; it is quite easy to find properties ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. Around three quarters of the dwellings in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners whereas renters occupy the remainder.
