Gloucester

Part of the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area, Gloucester is a neighbourhood within Township of Langley, British Columbia.

Transportation

This neighbourhood is very car friendly. Coming across a parking spot is easy, and it is a rather short drive to the closest highway from anywhere in Gloucester. This part of the municipality is not very well-suited for pedestrians as almost no day-to-day errands can be run without a car. Bicycling is also challenging in this part of Township of Langley because there are very few bike lanes, and there are a good number of elevation changes.

Services

In most cases, a vehicle is needed to purchase groceries. There are also a few restaurants and coffee shops in this neighbourhood. Regarding education, there are no high schools and no primary schools in this area. In addition, daycares are not abundant and consequently tend to require a very long walk to get to.

Character

Gloucester offers a slower-paced environment. Gloucester is reasonably quiet overall, as the streets are generally peaceful - although there are still several noisier areas, especially around the railway line. Parks aren't well-distributed, which results in them being occasionally difficult to get to from the majority of locations within this part of the municipality. Still, there are a few green spaces close by for residents to relax in, like Gloucester Community Park.

Housing

Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing most buildings in Gloucester, whereas the rest are mainly duplexes. This part of the municipality offers mainly two bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy about three quarters of the dwellings in Gloucester and one quarter are rented. About 45% of properties in this neighbourhood were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while most of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1990s.
