The neighbourhood of Downtown New Westminster is part of the city of New Westminster, British Columbia, which is situated in the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area.

Transportation

Downtown presents homeowners with several alternative methods of transportation. Owing to plenty of nearby rapid transit stations with access to the Expo Line, and around 10 nearby bus lines, this neighbourhood benefits from a very good public transit system. This area is also very convenient for pedestrians; most day-to-day needs are easy to meet without a vehicle, and there are also a fair number of businesses nearby. Getting around by bicycle is easy in Downtown as the cycling network is reasonably well-developed.

Services

Property owners in this area will welcome that a grocery store is always only a very short stroll away. There are about 10 groceries in this area, and the best choice can be found on streets such as Tenth Street. Additionally, this neighbourhood is a good place in which to eat out or go to a cafe. It is also convenient to get to a selection of clothing stores on foot, for instance on Columbia Street. With respect to education, families will find that wherever their home is situated in Downtown, schools and daycares are close by.

Character

Downtown offers a variety of experiences for those who enjoy a vibrant atmosphere and spending time in green spaces. Although the ambience is not the liveliest in this neighbourhood, the vibe can still be quite lively around its main streets, and finding one of the a few bars is very easy because they are generally situated in very convenient locations. Columbia Street in particular offers an extensive selection of nightlife. On the other hand, accessing public green spaces in the neighbourhood, such as Queen's Park Heritage Conservation Area and Glenbrook Ravine Park, is easy since there are about 40 of them close by for residents to check out.

Housing

Roughly 70% of dwellings are large apartment buildings, making it easy to find apartments in Downtown, and the remainder are mainly small apartment buildings. About 45% of properties in this part of the city were constructed following the year 2000, while most of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 1980s.
