North Slope

Situated within the Greater Nanaimo metropolitan area, North Slope is a neighbourhood within Nanaimo, British Columbia.

Transportation

Cars are a great transportation option in this neighbourhood. Coming across a place to park is generally easy. In contrast, North Slope is not very transit friendly. Nonetheless, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and the nearest bus stop is usually very close by. This area is not very conducive to people who like to travel as pedestrians as very few common errands can be run without the use of a car. The bike is a sometimes poor mode of transportation in North Slope since the cycling network is not very well-developed, and bicycle riders are faced with a significant amount of slopes.

Services

In this area, families will usually be able to get to primary schools and daycares by foot. On the other hand, North Slope does not contain any high schools. With respect to food, it is rarely practical for house buyers in this area to do their grocery shopping by foot. A small selection of restaurants can be found in North Slope as well.

Character

North Slope is a very good neighbourhood to buy a home in for those who prefer a relaxed ambience. This part of Nanaimo is very quiet overall, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic. Lastly, there are over 50 green spaces close by for residents to discover, like Linley Valley Cottle Lake Park and Neck Point Park, and they are very well-distributed, making them very easy to access.

Housing

In North Slope, about three quarters of buildings are single detached homes, but duplexes are also present in the housing stock. This area did not experience a single construction boom; the construction of new dwellings in this neighbourhood was spread throughout many decades in recent history. This neighbourhood offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Roughly 80% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and 20% are rented.
