Part of the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area, Douglas-Gilpin is a neighbourhood within Burnaby, British Columbia.

Transportation

Douglas-Gilpin is a fairly convenient part of Burnaby for getting around by public transit as a result of a few nearby bus lines. However, walking is not very popular in this area, despite the fact that meeting daily needs is convenient by walking. This neighbourhood is not very conducive to bicycling since cyclists encounter a significant amount of hills, and the cycling infrastructure is not very well-developed. However, Douglas-Gilpin is an extraordinarily convenient part of Burnaby for moving around by car. The majority of houses for sale are a short car ride from the nearest highway, such as Trans-Canada Highway, and it is especially convenient to park.

Services

Daycares and schools are convenient to reach on foot from most properties for sale in Douglas-Gilpin. With respect to food, a fraction of residents in this part of Burnaby may be able to purchase their groceries by walking, while others will have to rely on a vehicle. Conversely, Douglas-Gilpin is a fairly good place in which to go out to eat, and a small selection of cafes can be found as well.

Character

Douglas-Gilpin is a fairly good neighbourhood to buy a home in for those who prefer a slower-paced ambience. Green spaces are very well-located and there are a few of them close by for residents to discover, making them very easy to get to. This neighbourhood is reasonably quiet overall, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic - although that is not the case around Trans-Canada Highway.

Housing

Around two thirds of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and one third are renters. In this part of the city, about 30% of dwellings are single detached homes, and the rest of the dwellings are mainly small apartment buildings, duplexes, and townhouses. About 40% of homes in this neighbourhood were built between 1960 and 1980, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This area also has a good variety of unit sizes - it is quite easy to find houses ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms.
