Big Bend

The neighbourhood of Big Bend can be found in the city of Burnaby, British Columbia, which is situated in the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area.

Transportation

The public transit system in Big Bend is reasonably good thanks to a few nearby bus lines. In contrast, the bike is a fairly poor means of transportation in this area as there are few bike lanes, and riding a bicycle is made strenuous by the typically steep terrain. Many of the houses for sale in this area are located in places that are not very well-suited for walking because few common errands can be run on foot. However, Big Bend is very car friendly. It is especially convenient to access a parking spot.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in Big Bend. Moreover, parents and their kids may find it difficult to reach daycares as a pedestrian. As far as food is concerned, house buyers in this part of the city will appreciate that a grocery store is always only a reasonably short walk away. There are also around 20 restaurants and cafes in Big Bend.

Character

Big Bend is a good neighbourhood to buy a home in for those who prefer a slower-paced atmosphere. It is very easy to get to parks since there are about 10 of them nearby for residents to explore. This part of Burnaby is also reasonably quiet, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour - although that is not the case closer to one of the railway lines.

Housing

Over half of the housing stock of Big Bend consists of duplexes and townhouses, while the remainder are mainly single detached homes. This part of Burnaby is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. About three quarters of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas the rest are renters. The buildings in this part of the city are relatively new, because around 40% of its buildings were constructed after the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1960s.
