Transportation

Cars are a great transportation option in this neighbourhood. It is a reasonably short drive to the closest highway, such as Highway 401, from anywhere in this neighbourhood, and it is very convenient to come across a parking spot. Thanks to Rouge Hill Station on the Lakeshore East Line, and a few nearby bus lines, West Rouge is also reasonably transit friendly. Most houses for sale in this neighbourhood are located in places that are not particularly well-suited for walking because meeting daily needs is sometimes difficult on foot. It is also difficult to commute by bicycle in West Rouge because the cycling infrastructure is fairly poor, and cyclists are faced with quite a few elevation changes.

Families will welcome that wherever their property is located in West Rouge, daycares and schools are close by. With respect to eating, the nearest grocery store in this part of Toronto is usually only a reasonably short walk away. Residents of West Rouge are served by a few restaurants as well.

Character

West Rouge is a reasonably good neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a calm environment. The noise levels in this part of Toronto are low, as the streets tend to be calm. Lastly, greenery is quite prominent in this area as many streets have fairly good tree coverage. Parks, such as Rouge Park and Port Union Waterfront Park, are especially well-distributed and there are approximately 10 of them close by for residents to enjoy, resulting in them being very easy to access from most locations in the neighbourhood.

Housing

Single detached homes and row houses are the predominant housing type in West Rouge. This neighbourhood offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Nearly 95% of the properties in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and the remainder are rented. About one third of homes in this part of Toronto were built between 1980 and 1990, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s.
