It is difficult to move around by bike in this part of Cambridge because riding is made arduous by the often steep topography, and the bicycling network is not very well-developed. Character

The character of Royal Oak is exemplified by its slower-paced environment. Although this part of the city does not contain any public green spaces, parks are very well-distributed in nearby neighbourhoods, making it easy to reach them. This area is also quiet, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic - however some parts can be quite loud, especially close to Highway 401 or the railway line.

Housing

Roughly 30% of homes in Royal Oak were built prior to the 1960s, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s.
