Douglas

The neighbourhood of Douglas is part of the city of City of Langley, British Columbia, which is located in the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area.

Transportation

This neighbourhood will appeal to physically active people as it is reasonably conducive to those who travel by foot; carrying out day-to-day needs is easy by walking, and a fair number of businesses of different types can be found as well. However, Douglas is not particularly appropriate for cycling as there is a significant amount of hills, and this area is home to a rather poor bicycling infrastructure. Cars are a good medium of transportation in Douglas. It is easy to park. However, this part of the city is not particularly transit friendly. Nonetheless, the neighbourhood is linked by approximately 10 bus lines, and it is especially convenient to find a nearby bus stop from most residences.

Services

Parents and their children will value that no matter where their house is situated in Douglas, schools and daycares are close by. As far as food is concerned, it is straightforward to get to both a general and a specialty grocery store on foot from any home in Douglas. In addition, this neighbourhood is a fairly good place in which to eat out or go to a cafe. A decent selection of clothing stores is also located within a reasonably short walking distance.

Character

Douglas offers a broad selection of green spaces to enjoy, despite its sometimes busy feel. Public green spaces are very well-spread out and there are around 10 of them nearby for residents to check out, which makes it very easy to get to them from the majority of locations within the neighbourhood. Finally, due to the presence of few people out and about on the streets, this area remains relatively quiet; however noise levels are higher closer to the railway line.

Housing

About one third of properties in Douglas were built between 1960 and 1980, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built in the 1980s and the 1990s. The sizeable percentage of small apartment buildings in the housing stock of this area is an important part of its character. Renters occupy roughly 55% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood whereas the rest are occupied by owners. This area offers mainly one bedroom and two bedroom homes.
