Active home buyers will enjoy the reasonably pedestrian-friendly character of Lions Gate; running common errands is convenient, and a fair number of businesses of different types can be found as well. However, biking is challenging in this part of the municipality because travelling by bike is rendered strenuous by the often sloping terrain, and the bicycling network is quite poor. This neighbourhood is very car friendly. The majority of houses for sale are a very short drive from the closest highway, such as Trans-Canada Highway, and it is easy to access a parking spot. On the other hand, public transit riders may have limited choices in Lions Gate due to the service's low frequency. Thankfully, there are a few bus lines crossing the neighbourhood, and the closest bus stop is generally just around the corner.

A general and a specialty grocery store is always only a reasonably short walk away in this neighbourhood. Likewise, a restaurant is often just around the corner. When it comes to education, families will appreciate that no matter where their house is located in Lions Gate, daycares and primary schools are close by. In contrast, there are no high schools in this part of the municipality.

Lions Gate is a fairly good neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a calm ambience. This part of the municipality is quiet overall, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour - although there are still several louder areas, especially closer to Trans-Canada Highway. Finally, green spaces are very well-spread out and there are a few of them nearby for residents to check out, resulting in them being very easy to access from numerous locations in Lions Gate.

The substantial percentage of large apartment buildings in the housing stock of Lions Gate is an important part of its character. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of two bedroom and one bedroom homes. The population residing in this area is evenly split between renters and owners. This part of District of North Vancouver experienced its largest construction boom between 1960 and 1980, so most of the available housing stock is from this era.
