Located within the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area, Kirkstone is a neighbourhood in District of North Vancouver, British Columbia.

Transportation

Physically active property owners will enjoy the quite pedestrian-friendly character of Kirkstone; many day-to-day needs can be met on foot. However, it is very hard to travel by bike in Kirkstone since the cycling network is not very well-developed, and cyclists are faced with a significant amount of hills. Kirkstone is especially car friendly. Accessing a parking spot is quite easy, and the majority of houses for sale are a very short drive from the nearest highway, such as Trans-Canada Highway. However, commuting by public transit is sometimes challenging in this part of District of North Vancouver. Thankfully, there are a few bus lines traversing the neighbourhood, and it is especially convenient to get to a nearby bus stop from most properties.

Services

In Kirkstone, families will typically be able to access schools and daycares by walking. With regards to food, a general and a specialty grocery store is always only a rather short walk away in this area. Additionally, Kirkstone is a fairly good place in which to eat out.

Character

Kirkstone offers an extensive selection of green spaces to enjoy, as well as some areas with a vibrant atmosphere. There are a few parks close by for residents to relax in and they are especially well-situated, making it very easy to get to them from a lot of locations within the neighbourhood. Finally, this area is relatively quiet, since there are few people out and about on the streets; however there can be more noise for those who are closer to Trans-Canada Highway.

Housing

In Kirkstone, about 40% of buildings are small apartment buildings, whereas the rest are mainly large apartment buildings, single detached homes, and townhouses. About half of homes in this area were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This part of District of North Vancouver also has a good variety of housing sizes; properties range from lofts to four or more bedrooms. About 60% of the units in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and 40% are rented.
