Travelling on foot is also practical for residents in West Central Valley; meeting daily needs is convenient by walking. The bicycle is a fairly poor method of transportation in this neighbourhood as bicycling is made difficult by the often steep topography, and there are very few bike lanes.

However, West Central Valley does not contain any high schools.

Despite the somewhat busy feel, there are a lot of green spaces to enjoy in West Central Valley. There are a few green spaces close by for residents to unwind in, resulting in them being very easy to reach from many locations within this part of the city. Due to the presence of few people out and about on the streets, this neighbourhood is relatively quiet, although noise levels are higher closer to the railway line or Trans-Canada Highway.

About 70% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas renters make up the remainder. The sizeable percentage of large apartment buildings in the housing stock of this part of Burnaby is an important part of its character.
