The neighbourhood of Douglas-Gilpin can be found in the city of Burnaby, British Columbia, which is located in the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area.


This neighbourhood is transit friendly thanks to a few nearby bus lines. On the other hand, commuting by bicycle is difficult in Douglas-Gilpin as the bicycling infrastructure is not very well-developed, and cyclists encounter a considerable amount of hills. Travelling by foot in this part of the city is not very common, although running daily errands is convenient by walking. In contrast, Douglas-Gilpin is very car friendly. It is very convenient to park, and many properties for sale are a short car ride from the closest highway, such as Trans-Canada Highway.


Some, but not all, house buyers in this neighbourhood will reside within walking distance of the closest grocery store. On the other hand, a restaurant is commonly just around the corner, and a limited variety of coffee shops can be found as well. When it comes to education, parents and their children will appreciate that wherever their home is situated in this neighbourhood, schools and daycares are nearby.


People who prefer a slower-paced environment will enjoy Douglas-Gilpin. This neighbourhood is reasonably quiet, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic - however some parts can be quite noisy, especially near Trans-Canada Highway. Lastly, there are a few parks nearby for residents to enjoy, like Deer Lake Park, and they are very well-situated, which results in them being very easy to access from many locations within Douglas-Gilpin.


Homeowners occupy about two thirds of the dwellings in Douglas-Gilpin and one third are rented. In this area, about 30% of dwellings are single detached homes, and the rest are mainly small apartment buildings, duplexes, and townhouses.
